Oct would be good option for general elections: Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sana Ullah Khan on Saturday said keeping in view the financial position of the country, holding of general elections in October would be a good option for the government.

Talking to a private news channel, Sanaullah said the judiciary should constitute a full court bench to hear plea of political parties regarding the elections.

The Interior Minister said political groups have made a request to the Supreme Court for constituting a larger bench to listen to the genuine complaints of public representatives regarding elections in Punjab.

He said the government is engaged in compiling the census, and the security personnel have also been deployed for security of the staff collecting the census data.

The Interior Minister said the government will provide security and financial resources to the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold transparent elections in October.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Interiors Rana Sanaullah said his coalition government is making every attempt to bring the country out of catastrophe.

He talked to the media on Sunday and chastised the previous government for failing to provide development funds for public welfare despite having resources.

Rana Sanaullah claimed the PML-N was well-prepared for the elections, saying the government would complete its [term…] and that the election would be held [on time].

He blamed that due to poor performance, the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had failed to control inflation and deliver any good for the masses.

He stated that the current government was devoted to controlling inflation and that citizens will see significant changes in a short period of time.

‘Elections to be held in country in Oct’

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said on Sunday that elections would be held in October, saying the country was going through the political and constitutional crisis.

The federal minister said problems would emerge if elections were held in Punjab only, elaborating October was opportune time because assemblies would complete their five years tenure.

He added the decision to disqualify Nawaz Sharif was a wrong decision of the court as there was ‘dictatorship’ in the Supreme Court.

He said Punjab decides the majority of seats in the National Assembly and the elections in this province only would create chaos in the country while calling Imran Khan a symbol of mayhem.

He raised a question that why the Supreme Court did not act when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf failed to implement its decision regarding the local elections.
