Dacoit killed, six held as Punjab Police moving in on dacoits in katcha area

RAHIM YAR KHAN/LAHORE: One dacoit was killed and six others were arrested during a grand operation of the Punjab Police under the supervision of IG Police Dr Usman Anwar against dacoits in Katcha area of Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday.

According to details, one police constable was also injured due to fierce firing from both sides.

The injured head constable was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A huge cache of weapons was also recovered from their possessions.

The Punjab Police launched the grand operation against the bandits in Katcha areas along border with Sindh province. Punjab IG Police Usman Anwar himself is leading the operation.

On the occasion, IGP Usman Anwar informed the media that the exchange of fire between the police and the outlaws was going on. “Several police posts have been fully restored in the Katcha area and the operation is intelligence-based,” he claimed.

He stated that the sanctuaries of criminals would be completely eradicated from the area. The Punjab top cop said that modern weapons and armored vehicles are being used in the operation.

The Punjab IG Police said that a force of 2,000 soldiers has been sent from Punjab while a total of 11,000 soldiers are participating in the operation. “2,000 more personnel from PC and various districts have been dispatched to participate in the Katcha operation,” Dr Usman Anwar added.

He added that the operation was being conducted with the utmost care to minimize civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, Sindh Police also announced that they would begin similar operations in their areas to root out the menace of dacoits.

The situation in the Kacha area remains tense as the police continue their operation against the criminals.

The authorities expressed their determination to continue the operation until all the criminals were apprehended and brought to justice.
