Customs Intelligence seizes Rs38.9 million smuggled laptops, Aircraft Engine Oil goods

ISLAMABAD: Customs Intelligence has seized smuggled goods worth Rs38.9 million including 3600 laptops PCs, 2396 watches, 3 tons Cheese, 834 Cartoons of Aircraft Engine Oil, 190 boxes of assorted Food Supplements and 67 cartons of Cosmetics of Indian origin items.  

According to information, an anti-smuggling team of the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation-Customs, Karachi  on a specific information provided by the Director General Customs Intelligence  Faiz Ahmad confiscated a huge quantity of smuggled goods dumped in a compound near Rizvia Society, Scheme 33, Malir Karachi.  

Sources said that the anti-smuggling team on 25.01.2023 at around 11:00 hours chased two Mazda trucks and were successful in intercepting both on Rashid Minhas Road.

These were found to be loaded with foreign origin assorted laptops on cursory search adding that sources said that when the drivers failed to provide any documents showing legal import/possession, the aforementioned trucks along with the drivers were escorted to the office of the Directorate.

Meanwhile, another truck was witnessed exiting the premises which was also intercepted by the team near Askari Park, University Road, Karachi. Initial search revealed it to be loaded with Aircraft Piston Engine oil.

When the driver failed to produce any legal documents the same was brought to the office. Thereafter, a search warrant of the premises under Section 162 of the Customs Act, 1969 was obtained from the Civil Judge & Judicial Magistrate, Malir.

When the team entered the premises, it found another Mazda Truck and a Suzuki pickup loaded with smuggled goods. There were also other smuggled items lying in the premises which were then loaded on a truck.

All the smuggled goods along with vehicles were brought to the Directorate. Detailed inventory of the goods recovered has been prepared. Value of the smuggled goods is around Rs 369 million and that of vehicles is Rs 24 million (Total Rs.38.9 Crore)

Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged and three persons have been arrested and further investigations are in progress.

It is pertinent to mention that the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation-Customs, Karachi has also confiscated 10548 Bottles of wine worth millions few days ago
