PM says economic connectivity will lead to regional prosperity

ISLAMABAD: Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said the economic connectivity in the region will not only bring communities closer but also usher in a new era of peace and prosperity for South Asia.

The prime minister expressed these views as he received a high-level delegation from Uzbekistan led by Sardor Umurzakov, the nation’s deputy prime minister.

Recalling his recent meetings with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Samarkand in September, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to further enhance the existing excellent relationship between the two countries.

The prime minister said Pakistan offers connectivity to Central Asia through a network of roads and railways.

The delegation apprised Sharif about their meetings with the economic ministries of Pakistan during which it was agreed to enhance economic and trade ties between the two countries.

The visiting dignitary also briefed the prime minister about the discussions between the business groups of Pakistan and Uzbekistan in various fields.

The prime minister appreciated that fruitful discussion between the business community to establish business-to-business (B2B) contacts would enhance bilateral trade and investment.

The visiting delegation thanked Sharif and reiterated the bilateral relationship is further deepening and the pace of interactions is moving towards a positive trajectory.

The prime minister reiterated the friendship between Pakistan and Uzbekistan is strengthening with the passage of time and the visit is a manifestation of the growing relationship.
