‘Incompetents’ trying to disqualify the only competent leader: Rasheed

RAWALPINDI: Criticising the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, the chief of the Awami Muslim League (AML) party, said the “gang of incompetents” had conspired to disqualify the only “competent” leader of Pakistan but their plan won’t succeed.

In a statement shared on Twitter, he said Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), enjoys the love and support of the people, and, on the other hand, the coalition has nothing but ignominy.

He also targeted the foreign minister, saying that Bilawal Bhutto whose party had boycotted the National Assembly session on Financial Action Task Force (FATF) claimed credit after Pakistan was removed from its grey list that warrants increased surveillance for terrorism financing.

Pakistan was listed in June 2018 because of “strategic counter-terrorist financing-related deficiencies”.

With its removal from the list, Pakistan would essentially receive a reputational boost and get a clean bill of health from the international community on terrorist financing.

It would also improve sentiment, important from a foreign direct investment perspective.

In his tweet, Ahmad also spoke about the condition imposed by the court on the restoration of Parvez Elahi as the chief minister of Punjab. He said the case was related to the de-notification of the provincial chief executive by the governor and it had no link to the dissolution of the parliament.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) had asked Elahi to submit a written statement affirming that he would not dissolve the assembly and that only then the court will restore him to the position, which he did.

“When no respect is left of public opinion, it becomes dictatorship, not democracy,” added the former interior minister.
