Pakistan values ties with Switzerland: Governor

LAHORE: Georg Steiner, Ambassador of Switzerland to Pakistan, on Thursday called on Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman at Governor House Lahore.

Senior Political Adviser to Swiss Ambassador Osama Kaiser Khan was also present on the occasion. In the meeting, issues of mutual interest were discussed including further promotion of bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially in trade.

Speaking on the occasion, the Punjab Governor said that Pakistan values relations with Switzerland and cooperation in socio-economic development. He said that the people and government of Pakistan are grateful to the Government of Switzerland for helping the flood victims. The Punjab governor said that the process of rehabilitation of the flood victims was still going on while he was also working on the aspect of getting the flood victims out of the psychological effects of the flood, adding he said,  as the chancellor of the universities he has mobilized the vice-chancellors of the universities and the students in this regard.

Balighur Rehman said that Swiss products were preferred in Pakistan due to their quality. He stressed that Swiss businessmen should increase foreign direct investment in Pakistan, adding that Swiss businessmen should exchange technology and good practices in Pakistan. The Punjab governor said that there are vast opportunities for Swiss investors to invest in Pakistan. He further said that expediting the visa process for Pakistani businessmen to Switzerland will further boost bilateral trade.

On this occasion, Ambassador of Switzerland Georg Steiner said that the people of Pakistan were very hospitable. He said that his country attaches great importance to its cooperation with Pakistan and is willing to expand it further.
