Rs1b endowment fund set up for artistes welfare: CM Elahi

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that steps will be taken on priority basis for the revival Pakistani films, especially Punjab films.

“An endowment fund worth Rs1 billion will be established for the welfare of artistes and financial assistance for the deserving artistes has been enhanced from Rs5,000 to Rs25,000.”

Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was talking with senior film producers – Sheikh Amjad Rasheed and Rana Khalid Manzoor who called on him at CM’s House here on Sunday. They discussed with the chief minister matters pertaining to revival of film industry along with resolution of other problems.

The Punjab CM assured that the Punjab government will review to set up film production studio and all possible steps will be taken to provide quality recreational facilities to the people. The chief minister highlighted that employment opportunities will be generated with the enhancement of film production, adding that Punjab was a fertile land with regard to art and culture.

On the occasion, Sheikh Amjad Rasheed expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister over the endowment fund for the artistes and welcomed his decision. He lauded the CM for winning the hearts of artistes by increasing their financial aid.

Punjab Information Secretary Asif Bilal Lodhi and Press Secretary to CM Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry were also present on the occasion.

CM orders strict action against kite flyers

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday took notice of an injury to a citizen due to a kite string in Gulberg area and sought a report from the Lahore police in this regard.

The chief minister ordered for taking legal action against those found responsible for committing negligence. The CM ordered for providing the best treatment facilities to the injured citizen.

The CM asserted that implementation of a ban on kite-flying should be ensured strictly. In an indiscriminate manner, action should be taken against those flouting the ban on kite-flying law.

Meanwhile, Punjab CM Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi took notice of abduction and murder of a child in the area of Chung police station and sought a report from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in this regard.

The chief minister said that the killer of the innocent child should be arrested at the earliest. He asserted that the accused deserve strict punishment according to the law, and ordered for providing justice to the heirs.  The CM expressed his deep sense of sorrow with the heirs and assured them of provision of justice.
