Punjab cabinet approves Rs300 per maund support price for sugarcane

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi presided over the 4th provincial cabinet meeting at his office on Friday, which fixed the support price for sugarcane at Rs300 per maund.

The cabinet made it mandatory for sugar mills of Punjab to start sugarcane crushing from Nov 25. The cabinet also granted approval for engaging the Bank of Punjab in the Ehsaas Rashan Riyat programme.
The cabinet meeting also approved promotion of Director General Rescue-1122 Dr Rizwan Naseer from grade 20 to 21. The CM appreciated that the Rescue-1122 team provided assistance to the flood-affected people during the flood.

The provincial cabinet also granted approval to formulate regulations for registration of electric vehicles. It was decided in principle to run electric rickshaws in Punjab. The CM said that 50 per cent subsidy would be provided to electric vehicles in respect of taxes. Approval was granted to fill 3,000 vacant posts in the Punjab police department.

Approval was also granted to purchase drones for the police and to disburse Rs350 billion grant among the bar associations.
Approval was granted to extend the contract of Chief Operating Officer Punjab Safe City Authority Kamran Khan by two years.

Approval was accorded to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the PSCA and Huawei. The cabinet granted approval to appoint president of LDA Tribunal, amendment to Punjab Drug Rules, revamping of provincial quality control board, annual report on the State of Women Punjab Commission, audit reports about the accounts of Punjab government, audits of accounts of public sector enterprise, Government of the Punjab. Rules and regulations for the appointment of chairman Zakat & Usher Council, amendment to Quaid-e-Azam Library Schedule Regulation 1984, amendment to the Punjab Public Library General Regulation 2012, to review the contract of Quaid-e-Azam Business Park and the payment of three months notice period salary to the former chairman RUDA were also approved by the provincial cabinet.

Approval was also granted to extend the contract of 11 staff members of the capacity building of P&D for Policy Planning and Monitoring of Development process in Punjab.

The cabinet paid tributes to Dr Sania Nishtar for accomplishing years of work in only two-month time period, and attaining success in the flood relief programme.

The chief minister lauded efforts of Dr Sania Nishtar, SMBR Zahid Zaman Akhter, DG PDMA Faisal Fareed and the whole team. He said that implementation of the programme for disbursement of Rs12 billion among 5,000 flood affectees was an example of its own. He disclosed that the Punjab government had allocated Rs1 billion for flood-affected people of Sindh, but unfortunately a survey had yet not been conducted over there.

Provincial ministers, advisors, special assistants, chief secretary and officials concerned attended the meeting.
