Adopting integrated strategy to popularize digital, precision agriculture is imperative: Jahania Gardezi

Lahore: Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Hussain Jahania Gardezi while giving a speech at a technology demonstration event in Dipalpur, district Okara stated that Adopting integrated strategy to popularize digital, precision agriculture is the need of hour.

Pakistan has a lot of concerns due to climate change and it is very important to popularize modern agricultural technology. Adopting an integrated strategy to popularize digital and precision agriculture in Pakistan is the need of the hour. By promoting modern agricultural technology and digital agriculture, Pakistan can not only be self-sufficient in agricultural production, but the dream of exporting agricultural products can also come true

He further said that the transfer of precision agriculture technology will help to increase the domestic production and reduce the production cost of farmers. Punjab Government is making effort for this technology to bring under the reach of small farmers. Provincial Minister Agriculture Punjab further said that Pir Meher Ali Shah Barani Agricultural University,Rawalpindi has established a Precision Agriculture Center with the aim of promoting digital and precision agriculture at national level and providing farmers with real-time information. It will create awareness about the needs of our crops.

Today it is matter of great pleasure that this technology has reached at the doorstep of the farmers,he maintained. Provincial Minister further said that by promoting modern agricultural technology and digital agriculture, Pakistan will not only become self-sufficient in agricultural production, but the dream of increasing exporting agricultural products can also be true. He congratulated Vice Chancellor of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University ,Rawalpindi,for organizing this center and emphasized on updating its data on back end on daily basis. Arid Agricultural University introduced modern digital and precision agriculture for the first time in this country. He said that this year the students of this university are actively participating in the wheat sowing campaign. The increase in wheat production this year is very important for the country’s food security. We have to increase 2 million tonnes wheat production to save valuable foreign exchange of the country. At present the yield of approved varieties is 60 maunds per acre. If the farmers cultivate and maintain their crop in consultation with the agriculture department, the production will surely increase.

On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Pir Meher Ali Shah Barani Agricultural University Rawalpindi,Dr.Qamar-ul-Zaman while addressing the ceremony said that Barani Agricultural University Rawalpindi has the honor of being the first in Pakistan to develop modern digital and precision agriculture. In Pakistan Farmers are going from traditional farming to mechanization, now the university has realized the dream of GIS. The students of the university are providing awareness about the modern production technology of wheat to the farmers as a national mission so that our It is possible to increase the production. Dr. Saeed Iqbal, an agricultural expert of a private company and other speakers also addressed the event and provided awareness to the farmers about the use of modern technology.
