Gujranwala will emerge as PML-N fortress in general elections: minister

ISLAMABAD: Gujranwala will emerge as a fortress of disgraced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the upcoming general elections as it chose Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in 2018 by securing all seats, Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir claimed.

Speaking to a TV station, the minister called the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) protest a “killer march” as at least three people, including a reporter, lost their lives while participating in the march.

“The much-hyped march to Islamabad is not being held to bring a revolution, but to trigger unrest in the country,” he declared.

He claimed that Imran Khan, who has been calling government leaders thieves, has proven to be the biggest thief in the nation’s history with evidence of foreign funding and foreign gifts cases.

“That is a furlong march, not a long march, as their march travels a furlong in a day and march will not arrive in Islamabad before August 12 next year”.

Replying to a question, the minister accused that Khan’s claims in the previous long march were wrong that his party march would be peaceful and PTI has a record of violence-based incidents in Islamabad.

He further said that the PTI leadership only wanted to fulfil its vested interests, adding Khan has planned to cause clashes between the law enforcement agencies and his workers.

“Federal law enforcement agencies are on alert and they will take action against those trying to take law in their hands”, he said, adding the government is well prepared to deal with any situation.

To another question, he said the general election would be held on its time despite the “threats, abuses and intimidation attempts” to hold it earlier.
