Malaria claims three more lives in Kashmore

KANDHKOT: Three more persons including two minor children, aged between three to six years, died from Malaria in Kashmore during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from malaria to 12 during a week.

According to details, the deceased were identified as six-year-old Fouzia, daughter of Mohammad Shahban Bhutto, a resident of Badani Town, four-year-old Badaam, son of Ali Hassan Dahani, resident of village Kajlo Khoso and 30-year-old Noor Hassan Oghai, son of Master Siyani Oghai, a resident of village Ghouspur died from malaria.

The sources in Health department, though the death toll from Malaria in Kashmore and its adjoining areas has been on constant rise, the Sindh Health Department and district administration failed to take head-on measures to control the disease.

When approached local health officials, they said that health teams had been sent to the areas of Badani and Tangwani. It is to be important to mention here that due to the apathetic attitude of the Health’s malaria control department, both public and private hospitals in the district are flooded with patients of malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases. Since there hasn’t been any fumigation by the malaria control program resulting sudden outbreak malaria, causing rapid increase in patients in both public and private sectors hospitals. The sudden rise in malaria cases has also gave birth to shortage of malaria and dengue related medicines, which has been adding to the miseries of the people.

The people have demanded the provincial to take sweeping measures to control malaria spread and avert any outbreak in the district.
