FM Bilawal writes in to UNSC, UNSG about grim IIOJK situation

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has written a letter to the President of UN Security Council and the UN chief, drawing their attention to the alarming situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Minister in his letter especially highlighted India’s ongoing illegal measures to bring about a demographic change in IIOJK and its continued denial of the right of self-determination to the Kashmiri people.

He pointed out that Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian government’s unilateral measures in IIOJK since August 05 2019 are in blatant violation of international law, relevant UN resolutions and the 4th Geneva Convention.

The Foreign Minister maintained that in order to further alter the demographic composition of the occupied territory, Modi regime is making speedy moves to register 2.5 million new voters in IIOJK before the upcoming so-called Assembly elections in the territory.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged the UNSC to take cognizance of India’s illegal actions and make concerted efforts to hammer out a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and Kashmiris’ aspirations.

He called upon the world body to make it clear to India that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute whose future is to be decided by the Kashmiri people through the exercise of their right to self-determination.

The Foreign Minister reiterated that the best way to settle the lingering dispute is the holding of a free and impartial plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir under the auspices of the United Nations as per the relevant resolutions of the World Body.
