No let up in dengue fever cases

ISLAMABAD: The number of dengue fever cases keeps increasing in Pakistan amid an outbreak due to floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains in the country.

Sindh reported 351 new infections, said the provincial health department on Sunday night. The worst-hit area was Karachi which reported 247 new cases.

With the newly reported dengue cases, the October figure to date for the province has risen to 2,793, bringing the local total to 12,947 this year.

Punjab reported 277 new cases in the last 24 hours, the provincial health authorities said. Lahore reported 100 new cases, followed by Rawalpindi with 79 cases. The total number of dengue cases in Punjab this year has now gone up to 8,938.

In the last 24 hours, 254 more people were diagnosed with the disease in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The number of active cases in the province currently stands at 2,326 and the total number of cases this year has reached 11,613.

Islamabad reported 75 new dengue cases in the last 24 hours, the health authorities said. The city’s total tally has risen to 3,169 this year.
