Bail of suspect’s mother extended in wife murder

ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad has extended the interim bail of Samina Shah, the mother of Shahnawaz Amir, until October 3 in the murder of her daughter-in-law, Sara Inam.

Additional Sessions Judge Sheikh Muhammad Sohail heard the petition filed by Shah seeking an extension in her pre-arrest bail period. Accepting her application, the judge extended the period till Monday.

During the hearing, the investigation officer submitted the case record to the court.

Shah appeared before the court along with her lawyer Arsal Amjad Hashmi.

Hashmi told the court Amir sent a Whatsapp message to his Shah, asking her to talk to Inam’s family about her rukhsati (formal wedding). After that Shah went to sleep and was unaware of what happened later in the night, he added.

Hashmi continued that Shah received a call at 9:12 am the next morning in which she was asked to reach Amir’s room. But when she reached there, Inam had been murdered, he said, adding that her role in the whole episode was only that she asked her son to sit down in the room and call the police.

After her call, the police came and arrested Amir.

During the hearing, the information officer in the case told the court that Inam’s family which has come from Canada would record their statement before the police later in the day.

After this, the judge extended Shah’s interim bail till October 3.
