Customs foil bid to smuggle imported I-phones and Macbook Pro laptops

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantities of imported expensive I phones and Macbook Pro laptop at Islamabad airport.

Sources said that Additional Collector Asim Rehman  on the information raided Customs counters at Islamabad Airport and confiscated goods including I-Phones, Macbook Air as well as Pro, Dell and HP core, HP probook worth Rs64 million.

The passengers were coming from Dubai on different airline flights and reportedly three Customs officials namely Zia ul Islam, Khalid and Touqeer  posted at Islamabad airport allegedly in contact with passengers to clear the huge quantity of items.

However, sources said that Additional Collector Asim Rehman foiled the attempt of clearing non duty paid items and confiscated the goods.

Sources said that the above-mentioned Customs officials also helped the passengers to run away from the airport in order to save themselves from any inquiry. 

Sources said that Customs officials on a daily basis clear huge quantities of non-duty paid items from airports and the high ups do not pay heed.

Customs officials on a question of alleged involvement of officials posted at the airport replied that we have collected all details from baggage counters and other places where they abandoned them.
