Ombudsman office intervenes to release pending scholarships

LAHORE: On the direction of Punjab Ombudsman retired Maj. Azam Suleman Khan, the Provincial Benevolent Fund Board (PBFB) has paid educational scholarships and marriage grants to the children of 51 complainants with a total value of Rs2.98 million.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, a spokesman for the office said the action initiated by the ombudsman office on various complaints for the redressal of public issues, the district education authority Bahawalnagar has paid Rs3.1 million as employment dues of a late employee to his widow Asma Tariq.

Similarly, the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department paid Rs1.11 million to one Rabia Faisal as employment arrears of her late husband, district education authority Sheikhupura provided Rs2.6 million in financial assistance and leave encashment to Muhammad Ashiq while a security deposit of Rs1.32 million has been returned to Ijaz Farooq by buildings division of Hafizabad after the involvement of ombudsman office, the spokesman added.

The spokesman further said the ombudsman office also mediated to help Shaheen Zahid of Khanewal to eke out employment dues of her late husband worth Rs2.55 million from the police department after a gap of two years.

In a separate development, another widow plaintiff, Anaran Bibi, has been provided with the financial assistance of Rs1.6 million by highway division Mianwali.

The plaintiffs have thanked the ombudsman office for its assistance in securing their legal rights, added the spokesman.
