Massive rallies voice concerns over ‘miscreants activities’ in Swat

SWAT: Thousands of residents took out peace rallies in Khwaza Khela Tehsil and Kabal Tehsil, categorically declaring that no one will be allowed to turn Swat into a battle field and leave its residents at the mercy of militants.

Panic gripped the entire Swat region after personnel of the law enforcement agencies officers were held hostage by unidentified miscreants and a DSP was injured during a search operation in the upper areas of Tehsil Matta on August 8.

To give vent to their anger and apprehensions, thousands of people carrying placards took to streets to raise their voice for peace. “We had witnessed rain of gunpowder in the past and displacements of people on a scale having no precedent in the Swat history,” said Dr Amjad Ali, Advocate Ali Namdar Khan, Mufti Arif Ullah, Ziaullah and other speakers while addressing thousands of protesters.

They said the people of Swat had always struggle for peace and will remain working for peace. “No one will be allowed to hurt peace of the region and take the area hostage,” they warned, adding that the masses will deal such elements with sternly.

They said that the people of Swat had rendered numerous sacrifices for the sake of peace, adding that peace was restored in Swat as result of unparalleled sacrifices.

The sad incident that had taken place in the last few days has caused severe anxiety and unrest among the people. They demanded the central and provincial government to take practical measures to maintain the atmosphere of peace, considering the delicacy of the situation.
