10 of family dead in Kashmir roof collapse

ISLAMABAD: At least ten died when the roof of a house collapsed in the Tatta Pani settlement in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) following heavy rains.

10 people, including five children and two women, died and three sustained injuries, according to rescue officials.

The officials further said two families were living in the said house, while guests were also present at the time of the incident. The building was owned by an employee of the local tourism department.

The bodies and the injured have been shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital in Kotli district for treatment and first aid. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately, however.

Former Kashmir prime minister Abdul Qayyum Niazi expressed grief over the incident and expressed his condolences to the bereaved.

In his statement, he said he was heartbroken to hear the news. “I am an equal participant in the grief of the victim’s family in this hour of grief,” he said.
