PM directs provincial govts to step up efforts in wake of rains, floods

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday directed the provincial governments to remain alert in the wake of continuing monsoon rainfall which could trigger flash floods in different parts of the country.

The prime minister in a message to the chief minister Sindh said that the federal government would provide all possible support to the provincial government in this difficult situation. The recent rainy spell is lashing Karachi for the last few days, resulting in the monsoon deluge.

The prime minister also directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to fully assist the provincial governments and the departments concerned, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

He said the protection of the properties and lives of the people in the low-lying areas should be ensured.

The prime minister also desired that the elected representatives should supervise the rescue and relief activities launched by the relevant departments.

NEWLY-ELECTED PFUJ OFFICE BEARERS FELICITATED

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday congratulated the newly elected office bearers of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ). Extending his felicitations to the newly elected members, the prime minister said that the election of Afzal Butt and Arshad Ansari as president and secretary general of PFUJ respectively reflected the confidence of the journalists’ community in their leadership, a press release of PM Office Media Wing said.

The prime minister said the government firmly believed in the constitutional freedom of media and expression and assured that they would ensure complete support in the provision of a professional environment for the journalists and media personnel and would assist in the resolution of their issues.

He also expressed the hope that the newly elected office bearers would play their full role in the resolution of the issues being faced by the media people and the journalists.
