Elected representatives up against growing child, drug abuse

SWAT: The elected representatives of village council in Matta tehsil of District Swat on Thursday announced a massive campaign, calling it “Jihad” against the growing incidence of child abuse, including the curse of drugs and immoral activities in the area.

A meeting of the recently elected LG representatives of Village Council Shakardara was held with its Nadeem Khan in the chair. The meeting discussed the growing issue of child and drugs abuse in their areas. The council decided to fine all those found involve in child abuse by Rs100,000, besides exiling the abuser[s] for a period of five years from their area of residence.

The meeting, which was also attended by General Councilor Muhammad Sher Khan, General Councilor Alamgir Bacha, Youth Councilor Javed Ali, Farmer Councilor Liaqat Ali, Female Councilor Khan Ro, showed serious concern over the mentioned social evils. All members of the council urged that it was their responsibilities to safeguard the youth from the impact of drug addiction and immoral activities, thus the council unanimously approved to take historic decisions to rid Shakardara of drugs and immoral activities.

The written decisions state that those who found taking ice drug in the area will be fined Rs100,000 and those who supply it will be fined Rs200,000, Nadeem Khan confirmed.

“The unmarried girl and the boy will be married off if their immoral activities and relationship are proved, while the accused who abuses innocent children will be fined Rs100,000 and exiled from the area for five years,” the council decided.

Meanwhile, it was also decided to impose a fine of Rs500,000 on the accused for appearing within the limits of the council.

All the members of the council unanimously endorsed the historic decisions and formulated a strategy for implementation of the council’s decisions.
