Inauguration of Karachi Shaukat Khanum in 2023: Imran

KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said the Karachi branch of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital will be opened by the end of 2023.

In a Twitter post, the prime minister shared pictures of the construction site and said the charitable facility will be bigger than its counterparts in Lahore and Peshawar.

“SKMT [Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust] Karachi is on schedule to open end of next year. It will be bigger than SKMT Peshawar and Lahore,” he wrote.

Khan further said the hospital will be equipped with the latest state of the art machines.

It is pertinent to mention here the prime minister broke ground for the hospital, located in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) neighbourhood of the metropolis, in 2016.

Khan set up the hospital and research centre, in Lahore, in memory of his mother Shaukat Khanum, who died of cancer in 1985. Until recently, it was the only cancer hospital in Pakistan and is also linked to Bradford.

The trust managing the facility has established a number of hospitals, laboratories, and research centres across Pakistan.
