PML-N to block NAB ordinance: Sana

ISLAMABAD: The PML-N has decided to challenge the National Accountability (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021, which will reportedly allow the incumbent anti-graft chief to enjoy the office until the appointment of a successor.

The president approved Wednesday the amended ordinance allowing retired Justice Javed Iqbal to continue to work until a new chief is finalised. Iqbal’s successor will be appointed for a period of four years and their term may be extended.

However, the PML-N was divided as to how it will force the government to suspend the extension plans.

Speaking during a television programme, PML-N Punjab president Rana Sanaullah Khan said the party has decided to block the ordinance but it was still divided on how to do it.

Khan said the party will also attempt to ensure the opposition remains on the same page over the new law.

He rejected speculation that the party had raised objections internally over PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz’s recent statements concerning the outgoing chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence agency.
