No breakthrough in efforts to bridge gap between Balochistan CM, dissidents

QUETTA: The deadlock between Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan and estranged members of his coalition persists as all efforts of the committee formed to bring about reconciliation between the two have failed to yield fruit on Monday.

Although Kamal met with six disgruntled members of his government in recent days to win their support, the MPs were still adamant that he tenders his resignation.

They were of the view that they will not decide on their own but will go by the decision taken by the entire group of dissidents.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, on the other hand, is expected to visit Quetta again today to bring about a rapprochement between the chief minister and disgruntled MPs.

He had visited the provincial capital on Sunday too and held a meeting with Balochistan Assembly Speaker Abdul Qudoos Bezanjo. He then left for Islamabad in the evening.

On the other hand, the opposition’s plan to table a no-confidence motion against Khan in the Balochistan Assembly is presently restricted to merely statements due to what is described as a technical fault in the resolution drafted for the purpose.

Sanjrani and other members of the coalition will resume their efforts today to bridge differences between the chief minister and the group of dissidents.
