Opposition rejects increase in prices of petroleum products

Fawad says POL prices still low in as compared to other countries in the region

The opposition has rejected the increase in prices of petroleum products.

On Wednesday, the government approved an increase of Rs5 per litre in the price of petrol.

According to a notification issued by the Finance Division, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs5 per litre and new price will be Rs123.30 while High Speed Diesel price increased by Rs5.01 and the new price will be Rs120.04.

The price of Kerosene Oil has been increased by Rs5.42 per litre with new price Rs92.26 whereas Light Diesel Oil price increased by Rs5.92 per litre and its new price will be Rs90.69.

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has robbed the poor by hiking the price to the highest level in history.

The scion of the Bhutto dynasty, in a statement, said that with petrol and dollar at historic high, everyday use items will soon be out of reach of the masses.

The PPP chief said that PM Imran, who came into power with promises of cheap petrol, has not only increased the price to historic high but is trying to defend the massive hike.

Separately, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPA Hina Pervez Butt submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly against the increase in prices of petroleum products.

The resolution stated that the common man is already dealing with inflation and an increase in price of petrol every 15 days is a clear proof of anti-people government. The incumbent government has failed miserably in providing relief to the people, it added.

On the other hand, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that petroleum prices in Pakistan are still low as compared to other countries in the region.

In a post on social-networking website Twitter, the minister said that if you want to purchase petroleum products from outside, you need to pay more.
