Fazl accuses Bilawal of being a ‘pawn’ of the establishment

ISLAMABAD: In a fresh outburst against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman accused Bilawal of being a ‘pawn’ of the establishment as well as the federal government who destroyed the PDM’s cause.

In an interview with a local media outlet, Fazl lashed out at Bilawal and said that the PDM’s mission was destroyed due to the presence of Mir Jaffer and Mir Sadiq in the PDM ranks.

“Bilawal had bracketed himself with the federal government and the establishment. The option of (en-mass) resignations was a part of the PDM manifesto. Had the PPP leadership agreed to the PDM decision, the federal government would have fallen and elections would have been held by now,” he said while commenting over the failure of the PDM to topple the federal government.

Fazl did not stop and her and went on to accuse the PPP chairman further.

“The offer made to Bilawal was also made to us but Bilawal accepted the offer and we rejected that offer,” he said apparently referring to the backchannel contacts with the establishment. The JUI-F chief said that it is a pity that 74 years since Pakistan came into being have passed.

“At this stage, countries are put on the path of development and economic prosperity but Pakistan is moving back to square one,” he added.

Commenting about the recent developments taking place in Afghanistan, Fazl said that the United States, Europe and NATO have all been defeated in Afghanistan and America ino more a sole superpower of the world and it should no more try to change the geography of the world.

He said that after 9/11 attacks, the Taliban were saying offering the US to resolve issues through dialogue but the arrogant US decided not to talk to the Taliban.

“However, 20 years down the lane, the US has been holding talks to the Taliban in Doha for the past two years,” he asserted.

The JUI-F chief said that the change that has taken place in Afghanistan is not limited to Afghanistan but it’s a change in the region.

“After the Kabul conquest, the Taliban showed magnanimity and announced a general amnesty despite 20 years of war. Taliban’s generosity should be welcomed by the world. China, Russia and neighboring countries should adopt a positive attitude towards Taliban,” he asserted.

Criticising the federal government for not recognizing Taliban government, Fazl said that ‘wait and see’ policy reflects confusion.

“The signals coming from Russia and China are positive. Peaceful Afghanistan can guarantee a peaceful Asia. A stable Afghanistan would ensure stability in Pakistan,” he added.

Fazl said that the purpose for which Pakistan came into being is still a distant dream.

Where nations are moving forward, we are retreating. Instead of going upwards, we are rolling downwards. Our elders passed a unanimous constitution through parliamentary politics but today, plans are being hatched to turn these successes into failures,” he alleged.

The PDM chief said that today’s generation is watching the decay of the country’s economy and the common man is getting nothing but hunger and thirst.

‘The government that came for a change brought about such a change that even six percent economic growth has become a distant dream and the annual production has gone below zero. The rulers should tell us why that the increase in the exchange rate is actually increasing debt. We have to thwart the ruling party’s agenda,” he concluded.
