Oman suspends travel from Pakistan, India: state TV

ISLAMABAD: Oman will bar entry to arrivals from Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh starting April 24, as part of measures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, state TV reported.

The decision was taken by the Supreme Committee — tasked with tackling the coronavirus pandemic — to curb the spread of coronavirus, Sultanate of Oman Television announced.

The committee said the ban would cover passengers who passed by any of the three countries over the past two weeks.

“The ban ‪begins at 6:00 pm on Saturday, 24 April 2021, and continues till further notice,” a statement carried by state-owned Oman News Agency said.

Omani citizens, diplomats, or health workers and their families arriving from the said countries are exempted and will undergo the prescribed entry procedures upon entry in the Sultanate.

Muscat has also decided against allowing children below 12 years into commercial complexes and other trade outlets.

“The Committee instructs commercial complexes, commercial outlets, restaurants, and cafeterias to comply and limit the entry therein of customers to 50% of the outlets’ capacity. Legal action will be taken against any party that fails to abide by the decisions,” the statement said.

Earlier this month, Oman imposed a lockdown to restrict travel and movement throughout the nights of Ramadan, effective April 14, in a bid to limit transmission of the contagion disease, a statement on the Oman News Agency said.

Oman reported 1,077 new cases of Covid-19 and 17 deaths from Covid-related complications on April 21, according to the Covid-19 Data Repository by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
