Bombing in Sibi leaves four martyred, 28 wounded: police

QUETTA: A bomb exploded Tuesday near a government building in Sibi city of Balochistan, leaving at least four martyred and 28 wounded, police said.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Wazir Murree, a local police official, said rescuers transported the dead and wounded to hospitals, where an emergency had been declared.

He provided no further details and only said some of those listed as wounded were in critical condition. Local media said the blast happened near an open area where an annual cultural show was being held.

The bombing happened hours after President Arif Alvi attended the festival in Sibi.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo strongly condemned the blast and directed the authorities to provide the best possible aid to the injured.

He vowed to thwart “all conspiracies” and directed law enforcement agencies to arrest those involved in the attack.

Condemning the attack ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan said that a series of terrorist acts is a wake-up call for the government.

He said that ANP had repeatedly demanded full implementation of the National Action Plan.

“Action must be taken against terrorists without any discrimination,” he said.

“They have repeatedly shown that terrorist groups have re-organized. Serious and concrete steps should be taken to avoid further destruction and bloodshed.”
