Meeting pledges cooperation under MUBP Act 2022 for public harmony, welcoming steps to curb hate, sectarian and extremist content
LAHORE: The second meeting of the Muttahida Ulema Board Punjab (MUBP) on Saturday reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities under the Muttahida Ulema Board Punjab Act 2022, in line with the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah, and to working with all state institutions to maintain peace and order during Muharramul Haram 1448 AH.
The meeting was held at Khatam Al-Nabieen University (PBUH) with Dr Mufti Intikhab Ahmad, Chairman of the Board, in the chair.
The participants paid tribute to the efforts of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, and state institutions for maintaining peace and order during Muharramul Haram 1448 AH. They particularly commended the Auqaf Department for its initiative of sending delegations of ulema and mashaikh across the province to promote peace, inter-sect harmony, and unity among Muslims.
The meeting also lauded recent decisions of the Punjab chief minister and provincial cabinet aimed at strengthening law and order, and welcomed measures taken to curb content promoting bias, hatred, extremism, sectarianism, or religious discord.
Reaffirming its mandate under the Muttahida Ulema Board Punjab Act 2022, the Board pledged to continue working in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. Members committed to playing an active role from the pulpit and other platforms in promoting inter-sect harmony, interfaith tolerance, and the inclusion of mutually agreed authentic content in educational curricula.
The meeting assured full cooperation with all line departments in maintaining peace and order and promoting unity among Muslims during the upcoming Muharramul Haram 1448 AH. Participants stressed that ensuring peace and national stability was a constitutional responsibility of every citizen, and that government measures were aimed at safeguarding public safety and national security.
The Board unanimously condemned unconstitutional and violent political activity, terming it harmful to the country, the nation, the government, and state institutions, while commending state institutions for their role in maintaining peace and stability.
The meeting was attended by Maulana Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, Maulana Syed Saeed Ahmad Shah Gujrati, Maulana Zafarullah Shafiq, Maulana Sahibzada Hafiz Muhammad Amjad, Dr Mufti Muhammad Ramzan Sialvi, Dr Rana Muhammad Shafiq Khan Pasruri, Allama Muhammad Tauqeer Abbas, Dr Abdul Ghafoor Rashid, Prof Dr Hafiz Hassan Madani, Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Umar Madani, Allama Syed Intisar Mehdi, Prof Dr Mohsina Munir and Zafar Abbas Kh.
Special prayers were offered for the security and stability of Pakistan, the maintenance of peace and order, and the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs.
