ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday received a telephone call from his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who paid tribute to the premier and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their instrumental role in steering diplomatic efforts.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest during the call.
The development comes a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the proposed “peace deal” between Iran and the United States was expected to be finalised within the next 24 hours, following his earlier announcement that a “final, agreed-upon” text of the agreement had been reached between Tehran and Washington.

“The prime minister expressed his deep appreciation for Qatar’s strong and steadfast support for Pakistan’s peace efforts throughout the Gulf crisis and stated that a peace deal was ready for signatures by the relevant parties very shortly,” the PMO said.
Reciprocating the sentiment, Qatar’s Prime Minister assured PM Shehbaz that Doha was proud to extend its support to Pakistan and hoped the agreement would bring lasting peace to the region.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact in the coming days.
The Qatari premier also paid tribute to the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in facilitating diplomatic engagement, and reaffirmed Qatar’s support for Pakistan’s efforts, expressing hope that the process would contribute to lasting regional stability.
The Prime Minister also reiterated his invitation to the Amir of Qatar to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at an early date, as previously agreed between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan welcomed progress in the US-Iran negotiations, with an “electronic signing ceremony” expected to take place tomorrow.

According to a Foreign Office (FO) statement, the two sides welcomed the talks reaching their final stage.
“They welcomed the US–Iran negotiations in their final stage, with the electronic signing ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, and expressed the hope that this important development will contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region,” the FO said.
During the call, the Saudi foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s “consistent and sustained efforts in support of mediation and dialogue throughout the process.”
