Recalling his recent visit to Doha on April 16, the prime minister said his meeting with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Qatari leadership had been “most helpful” in building consensus for peace efforts.

He noted that the people of Pakistan were looking forward to a visit by the Qatari Emir at a mutually convenient date, saying such a visit would further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the Qatari premier expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, the PMO added.

He assured Prime Minister Shehbaz that Doha would continue to support diplomatic efforts spearheaded by Pakistan aimed at ensuring security and stability in the Middle East.

“Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication and coordination on all issues of mutual interest,” the PMO said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also shared details of the call on X, stating that he conveyed his gratitude to his “dear brother, the Emir of Qatar” for his leadership and Qatar’s continued support for Pakistan’s efforts to advance regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.

The prime minister had earlier met the Qatari Emir in February during an official visit to Doha, where both sides reaffirmed continued cooperation for peace and stability in the region and beyond.

During the same visit, he also met the Qatari Prime Minister, with discussions focusing on regional developments, including Gaza and broader Gulf security dynamics.

Pakistan had initially positioned itself as a facilitator in the peace process between Tehran and Washington after tensions escalated following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, triggering a conflict that contributed to a global fuel crisis. The process was later acknowledged by the White House and Iran, with Pakistan described as the “sole mediator.”

The first round of historic direct US–Iran talks, held in Islamabad on April 11–12, concluded without an agreement but also without a breakdown, after which a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire was extended indefinitely by US President Donald Trump.

While Pakistan’s leadership continues efforts to bring the US and Iran back to the negotiating table, an impasse in the diplomatic process persists.
