ISLAMABAD: Qatar’s Prime Minister on Saturday acknowledged and praised Pakistan’s efforts for peace and de-escalation in the Middle East through “dialogue and diplomacy” during a phone call with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Office (FO) said. The call came amid heightened tensions following the US-Israel military strikes on Iran.

In a statement posted on X, the FO said FM Dar spoke with Qatari PM and FM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani to discuss the evolving regional situation.

“The two leaders discussed prevailing regional and international developments and emphasised the importance of urgent de-escalation, with the Qatari side appreciating Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy,” the statement said.

The FO added that both sides reaffirmed the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Qatar and agreed to remain in close contact on ongoing developments.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran and the subsequent assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials last month. In retaliation, Tehran launched attacks on US military bases and installations in Gulf states, significantly broadening the confrontation.

Pakistan has since intensified its diplomatic efforts, emerging as a key mediator between the US and Iran and seeking to ease regional tensions across the Gulf.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also held a telephonic conversation with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, discussing regional and international developments as well as bilateral matters of mutual interest.
