MANAMA: Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday denounced Iranian attacks on Bahraini and Kuwaiti territory, describing them as a breach of the two countries’ sovereignty and a danger to security and stability in the Gulf region.
In a statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency, the ministry said the missiles were intercepted successfully. It also accused Tehran of breaching UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which it said condemned Iranian attacks and attempts to shut the Strait of Hormuz or obstruct international maritime navigation.
The ministry called on Iran to stop what it termed unjustified attacks without delay, fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions, reveal the locations of naval mines, and help enable the safe departure of more than 20,000 sailors stranded in the region.
The statement said Bahrain’s patience
does not signify weakness, while stressing that protecting the country’s sovereignty is a red line and pledging that all legitimate measures would be taken to preserve its security.
Alerts issued in Bahrain and Kuwait
Earlier on Saturday, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said air raid sirens had been activated following Iranian attacks and urged the public to remain calm and move to the nearest safe place.
The ministry said:
the siren has been sounded
It also said:
citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place.
Kuwait, meanwhile, said its air defences were dealing with what it described as hostile missile and drone threats.
Regional tensions
The latest developments come amid heightened tensions in the region following US and Israeli air strikes on Iran in late February, which set off retaliatory attacks and broadened instability across the Gulf.
Iran later launched strikes against Israel and also targeted countries hosting US military bases, while disrupting shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies. A ceasefire subsequently took effect, although diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a wider agreement have remained under way.
