KFUEIT: The Gem of South Punjab

Located in the heart of South Punjab, Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT), Rahim Yar Khan, has emerged as a leading institution of higher learning and innovation in the region. Since its establishment in 2014, KFUEIT has played a transformative role in strengthening higher education in an area historically underserved in advanced academic and research opportunities. Today, the university stands as a beacon of academic excellence, technological advancement, and regional development, earning recognition as the “Gem of South Punjab”.

KFUEIT was founded with the mission of providing quality education in engineering, technology, sciences, and emerging disciplines while fostering research, innovation, and socio-economic development in South Punjab. From its early years, the university prioritized an inclusive academic environment that nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and leadership among students.

Over the years, the university has expanded its academic portfolio with a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across engineering, computer sciences, physics, agriculture, management and Humanities & Arts. Modern laboratories, advanced research centers, and collaborations with national and international institutions have strengthened KFUEIT’s research culture. The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) plays a pivotal role in monitoring academic standards, ensuring compliance with national accreditation requirements, and promoting continuous improvement across all programs.

The strategic location of KFUEIT in Rahim Yar Khan enhances its regional significance. Positioned as a gateway connecting Punjab with Sindh and Balochistan, the university attracts students from across South Punjab and neighboring provinces. By offering affordable and high-quality education, KFUEIT has helped reduce educational disparities and develop skilled human resources in a historically underserved region.

Beyond academics, the university actively contributes to regional development through research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community-oriented programs. Its projects and outreach initiatives align with national priorities such as technological advancement, agricultural modernization, environmental sustainability, and healthcare improvements. The Institutional Research and Innovation Center (IRIC) provides mentorship and technical guidance to students and faculty, fostering applied research and promoting participation in provincial and national innovation expos.

The remarkable growth of KFUEIT is closely linked to the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Ir. Dr. Amir Azam Khan. Under his guidance, the university has undergone a significant transformation in governance, academic quality, infrastructure, and student services.

Prof. Khan emphasizes merit, transparency, accountability, and innovation as core principles of institutional development. His leadership focuses on empowering faculty, motivating students, and streamlining administrative systems, ensuring efficient operations and a culture of excellence. Through his vision, KFUEIT has achieved remarkable recognition in academic, research, and social impact domains.

KFUEIT has significantly improved services for students and staff. Timely disbursement of allowances, improved recruitment procedures, and modern administrative systems have strengthened institutional trust and efficiency.

Digital infrastructure has been upgraded, including high-speed internet access and campus-wide connectivity, enabling online learning, research collaboration, and access to global resources. A smart security system with integrated surveillance, access control, and monitoring has enhanced campus safety, creating a secure and student-friendly environment.

Maintaining academic quality is central to KFUEIT’s mission. Engineering programs in Agricultural, Computer, Electrical, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering have been reaccredited by national bodies, with the Quality Enhancement Cell ensuring compliance and continuous improvement. These reaccreditations validate the university’s curriculum and pedagogy, enhance graduate employability, and strengthen KFUEIT’s academic reputation nationally and internationally.

Innovation and applied research are core strengths of KFUEIT. The university encourages students and faculty to develop solutions addressing real-world challenges. Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) provides essential guidance, technical support, and mentorship, enabling students to present their projects at provincial and national innovation platforms.

In 2025, KFUEIT secured two positions at the PINTECH Expo held at the Expo Centre, Lahore. Award-winning projects included a “Bench Using Plastic Waste” developed by Mr. Galib Ijaz and an “IoT-Based Health Monitoring and Ventilator System” by Mr. Muhammad Mubeen, both supervised by Dr. Muhammad Bilal Tahir of the Institute of Physics. These achievements highlight KFUEIT’s focus on sustainability, healthcare innovation, and applied research.

Earlier, at the 2nd All Punjab Universities Innovation Expo 2023 organized by the Punjab Higher Education Commission, KFUEIT secured two first positions in Science and Technology (Physics) and Agriculture categories. Competing against around 450 projects from 47 universities, KFUEIT emerged as the only institution to achieve two top awards, showcasing the university’s culture of innovation, mentorship, and research excellence. Both the QEC and IRIC played a vital role in preparing students, ensuring adherence to academic standards, and providing research guidance.

KFUEIT believes in holistic education. The university has upgraded sports facilities, promoting participation in cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, athletics, and other activities. These efforts have resulted in gold medals and top positions in inter-university competitions.

Annual sports galas, tournaments, project exhibitions, Mushaira, Cultural Mela and recreational activities foster teamwork, discipline, leadership, and mutual respect. Cultural and literary events, workshops, seminars, innovation expos, and student-led projects create a vibrant, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating campus environment.

KFUEIT promotes diversity and equal opportunity for male and female students. Academic freedom, respectful interaction, and support for creative expression create a campus culture that encourages curiosity, confidence, and intellectual growth.

KFUEIT’s academic progress is reflected in improving rankings. In the QS Asia Rankings, the university moved from the 801 plus band in 2024 to the 661–680 range in 2025, and further advanced to 564 in Asia in 2026.

In the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, KFUEIT secured a position in the 201–250 band worldwide and ranked sixth in Pakistan. In the The Impact Rankings 2025, the university was among the top 201–300 globally for contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Webometrics rankings further reflect KFUEIT’s growing digital visibility and online presence. The QEC has been instrumental in maintaining quality standards that contribute to these rankings, while ORIC has played a key role in promoting research outputs, publications, and innovative projects. Collectively, these factors indicate KFUEIT’s upward trajectory in academic reputation, research impact, and societal contribution.

With dedicated leadership, motivated faculty, talented students, and strengthened institutional systems, KFUEIT is well-positioned to expand its academic, research, and societal contributions. With the continued support of the QEC and ORIC, the university is fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and excellence.

KFUEIT is not merely an academic institution, it is a transformative force shaping the educational and developmental landscape of South Punjab. Its achievements, resilience, and consistent growth make it a true gem of the region.
