Omar Ayub blasts Punjab govt for ‘highhandedness’ to rig by-polls

  • Demands Faizabad dharna inquiry report be made public to punish culprits
  • Seeks judicial inquiry into Bahawalnagar tragic incident

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General and opposition leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan strongly condemned the ‘termite-infested’ Punjab government and the provincial police for their ham-handed approach and high-handedness against PTI’s candidates and the party’s supporters ahead of by-polls scheduled for April 21, 2024, calling it a pre-polls rigging.

Speaking at a press conference along with PTI Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan, PTI Secretary General demanded the Faizabad inquiry report should be made public to punish the culprits instead of locking it into the cupboard to protect the wrongdoers.

Omar pointed out that PTI’s candidate for PP-36 was being harassed by Punjab police, which raided and circled his house and prisoner van reached there, as they did not allow the party to hold public gatherings and corner meetings.

PTI SG blasted the Punjab fake chief minister and IG Punjab, who was a corrupt officer and so incompetent that he could not have the courage to protect his own people, and added that these brutal and coercive tactics were employed against PTI’s leaders and workers in other constituencies on their behalf to spread fear to rig the elections.

He stated that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), who was promised to be made as Pakistan’s envoy to Canada, was enjoying foreign trips, adding that number of polling stations were reduced and were setup in remote area under malicious plot to influence the elections. Omar stated that the CEC had been asked to reduce PTI’s seats; hence RPO Gujranwala was given the charge of Wazirabad, who was a relative of the PML-N candidate.

PTI SG went on to say that the officials were instructed that form 45 should not be given to PTI people.

However, he said that today good news was that the court restored three PTI lawmakers, whose seats were snatched fraudulently under the guise of recounting.

About Bahawalnagar tragic incident, Opposition Leader demanded a transparent judicial inquiry of the Bahawalnagar clash between police and army personnel so as to bring facts the fore and to punish those responsible for the disgusting act.

Omar stated that incident was clearly reflecting the lack of discipline in the law enforcing institutions.

He quoted Khwaja Asif as saying that police raided the house without a warrant but he wanted to ask Asif whether police were carrying warrants or bouquets to conduct raids and torture and unlawfully detained PTI leaders and workers.

Omar made it clear that PTI Founding Chairman Imran Khan is a symbol of unity and for God sake do not push us against the wall as we are more patriots than anyone else.

Omar recalled that Khwaja Asif admitted on a TV talks show that Gen Bajwa invited PDM parties to topple PTI government; however, the nefarious plan could not be materialized due to covid pandemic. He added that later on PTI well-performing government was ousted under malicious London Plan and the government of crooks and pickpockets brought the economic growth from 6 percent to zero percent due to their inaptness and incompetent.

He said that the economic collapse was followed by the worst food inflation that jumped to 45 percent coupled by alarming upsurge in unemployment and unbearable cost of living.

However, Omar blasted at PDM-2 mandate thieves, which was standing on crutches of form 47 for crushing inflation-ridden and poverty-stricken masses by dropping the power and petrol bombs one after another that further compounded the public miseries.

The Opposition Leader alarmed that the nation should be ready for tsunami of inflation because the pickpocket gang committed to collect around Rs. 970 billion from people under the head of petroleum levy; hence it would drop more petrol bombs on the people in the coming days.

He urged people that they should be careful of their pockets because now the gang of pickpocket took the rein of the country.

Talking about Iran and Israel issue, Omar stated that Ishaq Dar should have given policy statement on the dangerously escalating tension in the Middle East but unfortunately Pakistani foreign minister did not have any leisure time to give any policy statement in this regard.

He said that they welcomed the Saudi high level delegation’s visit to Pakistan but he added that the investors first saw the rule of law in the country while the mandate thieves trampled the constitution and laws under their feet.

Omar went on to say that gravity of the situation could be judged from the fact that even six judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC) had to write a letter about the meddling of spy agencies into the affairs of the judiciary to get decisions against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.

PTI Secretary General raised a question how investors would come to such a country where lawlessness and anarchy reign supreme.

He demanded that Bushra Bibi medical checkup should be carried out from a doctor of Shaukat Khanum hospital, adding that secret cameras were installed in her bedroom and washroom, which was condemnable and should be removed forthwith.

About the opposition alliance, Omar asserted that six parties opposition alliance came into being with sole objective of restoration of constitution and upholding rule of law in the country. He stated that the opposition alliance held historic public gatherings in Pashin and Chaman and challenged the PML-N and PPP to hold such public meetings there.

He said: “We are patriotic citizens. We have to take Pakistan forward.”

He demanded that Balocistan people did not need any certificate of patriotism but there grievances should be addressed and the resources should be utilized where they were produced and the practice of enforced disappearance must come to an end and even the culprits should be dealt lawfully.
