New York judge finds former US president Donald Trump liable for fraud

NEW YORK: New York Judge Arthur Engoron has ruled that former President Donald Trump, along with his adult sons, is liable for fraud and has canceled the business certification of the Trump Organization.

The ruling came just days before a civil case brought by the New York Attorney General’s office against the Trumps was scheduled to go to trial.

Judge Engoron granted Attorney General Letitia James’ motion for summary judgment, stating that Trump, his sons, and other parties were “liable as a matter of law for persistent violations” of New York state law. Engoron found that the Trumps had provided false financial statements to lenders and insurers for approximately a decade, repeatedly engaging in fraudulent activities.

This ruling marks a significant legal setback for Donald Trump and his family, potentially carrying serious legal and financial consequences. It also highlights the ongoing legal challenges and investigations surrounding the former president and his business dealings.

“Today, a judge ruled in our favor and found that Donald Trump and the Trump Organization engaged in years of financial fraud,” James said in a statement Tuesday night. “We look forward to presenting the rest of our case at trial.”
