Climate challenges in Chitral

For the last several years, Chitral has been experiencing heavy rainfall and subsequent floods that have destroyed critical infrastructure. It is becoming increasingly difficult for people to live in the region because of the frequent and intense rainfall. People who depend on agriculture for their livelihoods are struggling to get by as heavy rains have destroyed the crops.

The region has been disconnected from the rest of the country as roads and highways have been wrecked by the recent floods. The lack of government attention has left the residents of Chitral feeling neglected and abandoned. The absence of aid and relief efforts has worsened the dire situation leaving the affected communities to fend for themselves in the aftermath of each devastating flood.

The concerned authorities must rise to the occasion and address these challenges to reduce people’s miseries. Immediate action should be taken to provide relief to the Chitral’s residents. In addition, long-term strategies must be implemented to understand the causes of the emerging climate challenges and equip the region with adequate infrastructure to mitigate the impact of climate change on vulnerable regions. Non-governmental organisations must also step forward and extend a helping hand to the people of Chitral in their time of need.
