Gangster arrested by police in the Capital

ISLAMABAD: A notorious gangster involved in numerous cases of robberies arrested during an exchange of fire with police in Lohibher area of federal capital, informed a police spokesman on Sunday.

However, three other accomplices of the gang managed to escape from the scene while taking advantage of the darkness, he said.

The detained criminal is identified as Irshad alias Uzme who is a recorded criminal in theft and possession of illegal arms and ammunition. A total of four cases are already registered against him in Shahzad Town Police Station.

Police also seized weapons with ammunition in use of robber, he said.

According to the details, a team of officials of Police Station (PS) Lohi Bher has erected a special check post near Jinnah garden to curb the crime (dacoitees) on the night between Saturday and Sunday when the cops spotted suspicious two bikes with four persons on board.

The cops signaled the bikes to stop for checking but the bike riders started indiscriminate firing on police party and fled away.

Police team managed to stop the robbers after putting hectic efforts but the robbers again opened firing on the cops, he said adding that police also retaliated and held a accomplice in injured condition.

The other three robbers managed to escaped from the scene while taking advantage of darkness, he said.

Upon getting information about a gun battle between police and robbers, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.

The police spokesman further stated that arrested accused involved in dacoity, theft cases and having illegal weapons.

The gangster Irshad had a jail bird in four cases committed in areas of Shahzad Town.

On the other hand, IG Islamabad Muhammad Ahsan Younas appreciated the efforts of the police party for hunting down a notorious dacoit and hand cuffing his close accomplice after an exchange of fire.
