KP health department didn’t do any work, top judge declares

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Tuesday censured the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for failing to perform its job in the healthcare sector.

“Where are the billions the government says it’s spending are going?” he questioned as a three-member bench headed by the judge took up a case regarding rising cases of breast cancer in the province.

The judge observed there were no X-ray machines or oxygen systems available in public hospitals across KP.

“Ineligible people have filed the ranks in public hospitals,” the judge lamented.

During the hearing, the advocate general told Justice Gulzar the province has started issuing healthcare cards. In addition, every registered person will be able to claim a treatment facility of up to Rs1 million per annum.

In response to the advocate general, the judge said: “You must have spent Rs5 to 6 billion so that certain elements can mint money of it.”

The case hearing of the case was adjourned for a week.
