Joint opposition to formulate strategy against mini-budget: Shehbaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the joint opposition will formulate a strategy to oppose the government’s mini-budget.

In a statement, Shehbaz Sharif said that passage of mini-budget from the National Assembly is synonymous to a national suicide. Tsunami of ‘tabdeli’ has swallowed economy, jobs and happiness of the public, he added.

Shehbaz, who is also the opposition leader in the National Assembly, further said that incumbent government has become a threat to national security.

“We will try making the government and its allies realise the detrimental effects of a mini-budget,” he said.

He said presenting a mini-budget is similar to treating cancer with aspirin, emphasising that the government should not present the mini-budget prepared by the International Monetary Fund.

In order to meet the conditions set by the International Monetary Fund for the revival of its $6 billion loan, the PTI government is all set to table a mini-budget before Parliament next week.

According to a news outelt, the finance bill will seek withdrawal of the General Sales Tax (GST) exemptions and impose standard rate of 17 percent on import of mobile phones, computers, gold, different articles of jewellery, LPG and many other products.
