LAHORE: Former Pakistan opening batter Ahmed Shehzad became visibly emotional during a live television appearance as he spoke about going unselected in the Pakistan Super League.
Appearing on a private TV channel, Shehzad admitted that watching his former teammates compete while he remained without a contract had taken a heavy emotional toll.
He said he still has the desire to play and described the days following each PSL auction as especially difficult. According to Shehzad, he often reflects on his career and questions the reasons behind his continued exclusion.
Having spent 18 years in professional cricket, he said witnessing the league’s growth from its inception and not being part of it now feels deeply painful. He shared that he misses the competition and, at times, becomes overwhelmed with emotion.
Shehzad also expressed disappointment that no cricket board official has approached him to discuss his situation or clarify any concerns. He suggested there appears to be confusion among some franchise representatives about his playing status, revealing that one new team even believed he had either retired or been banned.
The cricketer grew tearful while speaking about his nine-year-old son, saying this year’s snub hurt more because his child had hoped to see him back on the field. He recounted how his son often talks about remembering him as a player, which he said makes the situation even more emotional.
During the broadcast, the host embraced Shehzad in support, while fellow cricketer Mohammad Amir also offered words of comfort as the former opener struggled to hold back tears.
