A shocking incident captured on video has gone viral after a young man was injured when a mobile phone battery exploded inside his mouth at a repair shop.
The footage shows the man standing at the counter of what appears to be a mobile phone repair store, holding a loose battery while waiting. In what seemed like a casual and impulsive act, he places the battery between his teeth and bites down on it.
Within seconds, the battery ignites and explodes, sending flames outward from his mouth. Startled, the man jerks back and throws the burning battery away as it continues to spark on the floor near the counter. The shopkeeper is seen reacting quickly, attempting to move the flaming object away, while panic spreads through the small space.
The entire episode unfolds in moments, underscoring how rapidly such devices can turn hazardous when mishandled.
Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in mobile phones and other electronic devices, are highly sensitive to physical damage. Experts warn that crushing, puncturing or applying excessive pressure to these batteries can cause an internal short circuit. When this happens, the battery may release intense heat and flammable gases in a chain reaction known as thermal runaway.
During thermal runaway, the battery essentially feeds its own fire, rapidly escalating into flames or an explosion. Safety specialists consistently advise against tampering with or handling loose batteries improperly, stressing that even brief misuse can result in serious injury.
Authorities have not released further details about the condition of the man involved, but the viral clip has sparked renewed warnings about the dangers associated with lithium-ion batteries and the importance of safe handling practices.
