Supreme Court defers bail decision in case of social media posts targeting women

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday postponed its decision on a bail request filed by Tayyab Dar, who faces allegations of posting obscene content against women on social media. A two-judge bench, led by Justice Jamal Mandokhail and Justice Musarrat Hilali, heard the case.

During proceedings, the complainant’s lawyer, Rizwan Abbasi, presented evidence showing the accused’s involvement in uploading vulgar posts targeting women, which he said were so offensive they could not be read aloud in court.

The defense argued that the content had been posted by the accused’s son, not him, although they acknowledged that the SIM card used for the posts was registered under the father’s name.

Justice Mandokhail questioned the prudence of allowing children access to mobile phones in such situations, while Justice Hilali asked whether the father could plausibly be unaware of activities linked to his own phone number. Investigators had noted that both father and son shared the same device, a point the bench highlighted as potentially incriminating.

The complainant’s lawyer requested additional time to submit supporting documents and opposed bail. The court accepted the request and adjourned the hearing to next week, deferring any ruling on the petition.
