FIA nets 257 suspects using illegal sea route to Iran

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency’s Composite Circle Gwadar has arrested 257 people during December 2025 for attempting to travel illegally to Iran by sea.

An FIA spokesperson said the suspects were residents of various districts across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Among those detained were 34 foreign nationals, including 30 from Afghanistan, two from Bangladesh and two from Iran.

Of the total arrests, 142 suspects belonged to Punjab, 12 to Sindh and 63 to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All were taken into custody from the coastal area of Jiwani.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects had used Iran as a transit point to reach other countries through illegal means. Cases have been registered against those arrested, and further investigation is under way.

Authorities said a broader crackdown is continuing against networks involved in human trafficking and illegal border crossings, with all available resources being deployed to apprehend those responsible.
