Woman killed, several injured in Karachi boat collision

KARACHI: A woman was killed and several others sustained injuries after two passenger boats collided near Kemari Gate Number 1 on Sunday evening. Rescue teams saved approximately seven people, including women and children, officials said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amjad Sheikh confirmed that 10 to 12 injured individuals were shifted to a private hospital, with two children reported to be in critical condition. The boats, carrying 20 to 25 passengers, were travelling from Kemari Manora to Baba Bhat at the time of the accident.

Additional Kemari police personnel were deployed to the site to assist with relief and recovery operations. SSP Sheikh said the authorities were investigating the circumstances of the collision to determine its cause.

This incident comes amid a series of recent accidents in the region. Earlier this month, three Motorway police officers died in a traffic accident on M-5 near Uch Sharif when a passenger bus collided with a patrolling police vehicle from the rear. The deceased included Assistant Sub-Inspector Mushtaq, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nasir Abbas, and Constable Usama. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched, and investigations into the cause are ongoing.

Separately, four people, including three brothers, were killed in Punjab’s Shujabad area when a passenger bus collided with the motorcycles they were riding. Among the deceased was 20-year-old Yasir, who had been preparing for his wedding the next day. Rescue 1122 officials confirmed the fatalities occurred instantly at the scene.

Authorities continue to urge vigilance and adherence to safety measures to prevent further accidents on waterways and roads.
