Grenade attack on Swabi checkpost claims life of police constable

SWABI: A police constable embraced martyrdom after unidentified assailants hurled a hand grenade at a police checkpost in Kalabat village, Tehsil Topi, on Thursday.

According to the Topi Police Station, Constable Noor Kamal Shah was on duty at the main gate of the Kalabat Police Checkpost when motorcycle-borne attackers threw a grenade toward the entrance. The blast left him critically injured and caused minor damage to the post.

Rescue personnel arrived soon after the explosion and shifted the injured constable to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment.

Police teams later cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the culprits. Officials confirmed that evidence had been collected from the site, and investigations are underway to determine the attackers’ identity and motive.

Authorities noted that the same checkpost had been targeted in a similar grenade attack last year, which damaged part of the building but caused no casualties.

The funeral prayer for Constable Noor Kamal Shah was held at Police Lines Shah Mansoor, attended by senior officers, police personnel, and local residents. A contingent of police presented a guard of honour before the martyr was laid to rest.
