Public holiday announced on August 9 in Sindh

KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on August 9, 2025, to observe the Urs of the renowned Sufi poet and saint, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai. A notification issued by the provincial government confirmed that all offices, schools, educational institutions, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the provincial jurisdiction will remain closed on the occasion.

The holiday falls on the 14th of Safar, 1447 (AH), marking the beginning of the three-day Urs celebrations. While most public services will be suspended, essential services will continue to operate throughout the province.

The Urs celebrations will feature poetry marathons, literature conferences, and a variety of activities to honor the legacy of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and celebrate his contributions to Sufi poetry and philosophy.
