ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, dismissed rumours of a split between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), confirming that the current coalition government would continue as planned.
Sanaullah emphasized that the PPP and PML-N alliance is essential for the functioning of the government, stating that the coalition cannot continue without both parties. He assured that any speculation about a rift between the two parties is “completely baseless.”
Addressing questions about the potential for Field Marshal Asim Munir to assume the presidency, Sanaullah clarified that there was no such plan, asserting that Munir would remain in his military position until his retirement.
PPP Senator Saleem Mandviwalla acknowledged that there were concerns among PPP members in Punjab due to the provincial government’s failure to address their issues. However, he also highlighted positive cooperation between the PPP and PML-N, citing the example of the Sindh government opening a hospital in Punjab without objections from the PML-N-led provincial government.
Sanaullah emphasized the importance of political maturity between the two parties, reiterating that the Charter of Democracy discourages any party from undermining the other’s government. He also confirmed that discussions with Maulana Fazlur Rehman focused on the upcoming Senate elections, where the PPP, Maulana’s party, and the PML-N hope to secure more seats through combined efforts.
