Transgender shot dead, driver injured in Malakand attack

SWAT: A transgender individual, Shahab alias Wafa, was fatally shot in the Badraga area of Malakand district last night. His driver, Naveed, a resident of Mardan, sustained serious injuries in the attack.

According to Malakand Levies, unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle near Badraga of Dargai Tehsil in Malakand district. Wafa died on the spot, while the injured driver was shifted to a nearby hospital.

An FIR filed by the injured driver Naveed, names Shaukat, identified as a former friend of the deceased, and an unidentified accomplice as suspects.

The FIR states that Wafa and Shaukat’s friendship had ended recently, which allegedly led to the fatal shooting.

Levies personnel collected evidence from the crime scene and launched an investigation. Efforts to arrest the accused are underway, authorities said.

This incident marks the ninth killing of a transgender person in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2025.

Trans rights activist Farzana Jan condemned the killing and urged the government to ensure immediate arrest of the culprits and provide protection to the transgender community.
