ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Thursday ordered strict action against corrupt officers and staff within the National Highway Authority (NHA).
Chairing a session attended by the federal secretary of communications and the NHA chairman, Khan emphasized a zero-tolerance policy and set a one-week deadline for action.
During the meeting, progress on NHA’s highway projects, including those from Bela to Awaran and Zhob to Loralai, was reviewed, with directives to accelerate construction. The minister instructed that ongoing projects in all four provinces be expedited to meet timelines and that an extensive “clean-up” operation be launched to remove corrupt officials.
Khan insisted on a six-lane construction for motorways from Lahore, Sialkot, and Kharian to Islamabad instead of four lanes, highlighting the need for qualified and honest officers. Additionally, he pressed for urgent implementation of projects to remove motorway barriers, install electronic toll plazas, and urged provincial cooperation in new road projects.
To improve safety, Khan mandated the installation of CCTV cameras along all highways and motorways.
