Man booked for rape, blackmail of minor girl in Bahalwalpur

BAHAWALPUR: Police in Lodhran district have registered a case against a man accused of raping a minor girl and blackmailing her with objectionable videos, according to police.

The first information report was lodged by Dhanote police on the complaint of the girl’s mother. According to the complaint, the minor had gone to Basti Karim Dad Khan in Mauza Jamrani Wah to visit her married sisters when the suspect allegedly assaulted her and recorded nude videos of her.

The complainant told police that the suspect later used those videos to blackmail the girl and repeatedly raped her. She further stated that her daughter disclosed the alleged abuse to her in the presence of witnesses.

Police said a case had been registered against the suspect and an investigation was under way.

PPP marks black day in Bahawalpur

Separately, a protest rally was held outside the Bahawalpur Press Club in connection with the PPP’s black day observance under the auspices of the party’s Metropolitan Corporation Bahawalpur chapter.

The rally was led by PPP Metropolitan Corporation president Malik Imtiaz Channar and attended by a large number of party workers. Participants chanted slogans against Gen Ziaul Haq and delivered speeches criticising his dictatorship, which began after the overthrow of the PPP government on July 5, 1977.

Three injured in Lodhran road accident

In another development, three people were seriously injured in a collision between a car and a motorcycle at Bannaywala on Jalalpur Road in Lodhran.

According to Rescue 1122, a speeding motorcycle struck the rear of a car. The injured were identified as Muhammad Zahid, 28, Shafqat Bibi, 36, and Shaista Bibi, 36. They were shifted to DHQ Hospital Lodhran, while police took the car driver into custody.
